I had a few questions recently about how to add dimension and depth to your abstract flower paintings. In this video demo, I show you how I painted this abstract floral with acrylc paint and I go over the three things I do to create dimension in my floral paintings.
1. use a variety of values
2. pay attention to color temperature
3. layer/overlap

Loose Flower Painting Demo | Painting Flowers with Acrylics
I filmed a loose flower painting demo this morning for Patreon. I have been feeling that my brushwork has become too tight and I wanted to do a warm-up painting to loosen up. I decided to paint some loose flowers in my sketchbook. I didn’t use a reference photo, I just make loose marks and slowly shaped them into a floral painting.
You can view this painting demo on my Patreon page. When you become a Patron you will get access to my full painting library for just $5 a month! I’ll be adding at least 2 new painting videos each month going forward. You will be able to view all of my videos as many times as you want, for as long as you are a Patron.

Learn How to Paint with Acrylics | Sweet Treats Painting Tutorials
Sketchbook Painting | Paint a Series of Sweet Treats to Practice the Fundamentals of Acrylic Painting
https://www.skillshare.com/r/user/ellebyers
In this class, we will create a series of “sweet treats” to practice our acrylic painting skills! When you don’t have a lot of time, creating a series of studies in your sketchbook is a fabulous way to practice the fundamentals of acrylic painting. Each study in this class is designed to take no more than 20-30 minutes to complete.
Why do I like small studies?
1. Small successes build confidence
2. They can be done quickly
3. You learn a lot in a short amount of time.
When you’re painting in a sketchbook, think of it as practice. Feel free to play around with color and values. Try new compositions and different paint brushes. If your painting didn’t work, try to figure out what went wrong, turn the page and try again!

Sketchbook Painting | Practicing the Fundamentals of Acrylic Painting with a Series of Fruit Studies
I created a new class for Skillshare called “Sketchbook Painting | Practicing the Fundamentals of Acrylic Painting with a Series of Fruit Studies.” Click HERE to watch!
Creating a series of studies in your sketchbook is a fabulous way to practice the fundamentals of acrylic painting in a short period of time. When you are trying to improve your painting skills, painting often is important, but it’s not always possible to complete a large painting on canvas everyday. That’s where sketchbook painting comes in handy. Each study in this class is designed to take no more than 20-30 minutes to complete. I also keep things simple by using a limited color palette and a couple of paint brushes so the set-up time is minimal.
When you’re painting in a sketchbook, think of it as practice. Feel free to play around with color and values. Try new compositions and different paint brushes. If your painting didn’t work, try to figure out what went wrong, turn the page and try again! I think you’ll find that small successes build confidence and the more you practice, the faster you will improve! Create a few studies a week or one a day and you will see your painting skills develop faster than if you were to toil away at one large painting over the course of a month.
